And of course, yet again, the moment I step out of a bubble, all I fucking fucking fucking hear is how if only that bitch Hillary didn’t ruin it for everyone or how come no one is holding the left and Democrats for all the unprecedented superthuggery they committed unlike the sainted holy genteel Right and Berniacs and fucking wonder how hopeless this country really is.

Because despite having to convince myself that there’s a movement happening, I keep getting all these fucking reminders that we may be more alone than we wished and that the country really does fucking love this if only because it gets to kick us in the teeth repeatedly.

I’ve known for a long time that the Nazis were a popular political movement in Wiemar Germany before they seized absolute power.

Now I really appreciate what that popularity meant — that a substantial fraction of the citizens in a democracy can very easily vote for evil.
