As I pointed out at the time, I have been in the very same situation as Darren Wilson. When I was a deputy sheriff in California in the late 70s, I was in fact charged by a 300 pound 18-year-old miscreant. It didn’t cross my mind to shoot him. A snap kick to the groin brought him down instantly. I went down, too, but I was right back up while he took, well, quite a while to recover. He is probably still alive and I’ll bet his balls have even quit hurting by now.
