Deer season opens next Saturday here in Wisconsin. I’ve got family friends with 40 forested acres abutting a county forest. Usually a fair number of Bambies waiting for a chance to fill my freezer.

I love hunting season. I enjoy the woods and consider it a success even if I don’t see a deer. I prefer to get a doe personally - usually better eating and far better for herd control. I’ll chase squirrel, rabbit, pheasant & duck, too, when I get the chance. The way the herd is growing here, perhaps even elk someday.

I’ve got my old 1893 7mm Spanish Mauser sighted in at 50 meters, the weather forecast is decent & I’m am looking forward to that dawn.
