Having been married to a catholic, I can tell you that this is pretty true of the current generation. The Pope isn’t what he used to be.

I was raised Catholic and even did a few years at Catholic school. Nobody paid attention to whatever rules the Vatican would dream up. The church was more of a community bonding tool than a spiritual center.
