Honestly, Wright does not sound like my cup of tea, and the crap he’s quoted as saying offends me deeply. But for my entire adult life, U.S. presidents have palled around publicly with people who say things that offend me just as deeply as anything that came out of Wright’s mouth, and the right wing not only accepted it, they backed these people and praised them to the heavens. I accepted that presidents could pal around with bigots and not get burned. Who the hell knew the rules would change just for Jeremiah Wright?
