We had pretty high inflation back in the 50s and 60s, when the executive salaries were intentionally kept as close to worker salaries through various measures. A lot of that inflation was due to workers having more money to spend than things to spend it on.

Not even close to what it was in the late 70’s, early 80’s. Inflation and interest rates then were well into the double digits; even T-Bills were paying 14%.
