But, just to clarify, James Watson didn’t “discover DNA”. DNA had been known about for a long, long time. What he and Francis Crick did, with the help of Maurice Wilkins after stealing a look at Rosalind Franklin’s X-Ray Crystallography, was to deduce the double-helical structure, which then allowed everyone to figure out how it worked.

Earlier Hershey-Chase experiments had already demonstrated that DNA was the molecule that carried inheritance, but nobody knew how that worked.

And Watson is an unrepentant racist. Fuck him.
