Oh, no. We went to the wood carving villages and saw them actually working on the carvings. Some of the ones we bought from were actually in a Mexican Folk Art book as some of the best for a particular type of art. We did the same thing with the weavers. We bought some rugs from a famous weaving family and got to see their operation. They also fed us a fantastic lunch. We had actually met the head of the family in Santa Fe and I attended a dye workshop that he put on for us at the living history museum where I volunteer. We went with a small group led by a buyer of Mexican folk art for the past 30 years. He and his wife know everyone and everything it seems. We got to visit some great archeological sites as well.

Oh man, lucky you! So Oaxaca? Is the owl an alebrije? I only have one simple one, but I love it—I even made a page about him then I first got him. ;-)
