re: #165 Barefoot Grin
Love the frame pump. I’ve had a hard time finding one like that. I had to remove one of my bottle cages to put one on.
Ever since I had to walk 2 miles in cleats, I like to go on rides well-equipped to deal with flats. Minipumps take FOREVER, and if you carry one CO2 cartridge and one tube, and then THAT goes flat, you’re stuck making the Call Of Shame. With a frame pump, a spare tube, and some patches, you only have to do that if the tire itself is ruined.
Which also happened to me once. I hit God’s Own Pothole halfway down a 4 mile descent - WHAM!!!! - went around the next curve, thinking, “Man, am I lucky that didn’t flat!”. As soon as the road straightened out - PSSSSSSSSSSssssssssssshhhhhhhhh
Put in the spare tube, pumped it up and noticed a slight bulge in the casing. Nursed it down to the bottom and called my wife, rather than risking the 16 miles home.
