I know a few folks like that. I can’t even count how many times I’ve corrected a fake quote only to be told that they agree with the idea even if that person didn’t say it, or debunked some kind of wingnut herpty derp with a Snopes link only to have the person say that maybe it’s not true in that particular instance, but they wouldn’t put it past the media/the government/etc.

It’s obnoxious.

I once got into an online (*ahem*) discussion with a friend who swings to the right. She had posted to Facebook that urban legend about how Starbucks refused to donate coffee to Marines in Iraq because the company didn’t support the war.

In response I posted the Snopes article that debunked the story, and in response to me she wrote “I don’t believe in Snopes.”

So basically, she chose to believe an unsourced rumor that could have come from anywhere over a researched, documented article.

It sure is in an interesting mind set.
