re: #161 goddamnedfrank

Kaine has white male privilege working in his favor. On most issues he’s basically pretty liberal and for bonus points he speaks Spanish. But he’s boring as fuck and bad on reproductive freedom. I very much doubt he’s going to pull working class whites back into Clinton’s camp and think she’d be far better off cementing the groundbreaking nature of her candidacy by picking Warren, Castro or Booker. As far as white dudes go Al Franken would be better than Kaine in my opinion. I really hope she passes on Tim, he just seems like a bad fit that won’t help energize the ticket at all.

I’d think that the check mark against Booker is the same one as against Warren: they both come from states with a Republican governor. That means you have to win an extra seat in the Senate, and barring a giant wave down ticket, I can’t see that being a risk worth taking. Franken and Kaine have the benefit of having Democratic governors in their home states. It is kind of strange that there’s no obvious choice on either side this time around. Usually there’s a couple of obvious/safe choices, even if they don’t get picked. This time, it seems not so much.
