I love it. Mitch is having a bad year…and the Republicans are in power. Cracks in the ol’ GOP.

Of course I also realize the Democratic Party is having similar issues with fighting factions.

Is America really a two-party political system anymore? We have Republicans calling themselves Independents. We have Democrats calling themselves Libertarians and Socialists.

Crazy times.

Our political system only has the veneer of being a two-party system. Both major parties are really broad coalitions similar to what governing coalitions look like in many European parliaments, and have been for a very long time. I do wonder if the rise of Trump’s populist/nationalist bullshit will shift some libertarians into the Democratic fold. I consider myself fairly libertarian and somewhere in the last 10 years or so, I went from center right to center left without really changing my opinion on anything. As a result, I’m much more inclined to vote for Democratic candidates than Republican ones.
