That could be mitigated, but Saab would have to agree to let a US firm build the aircraft under license. Grippens built in Sweden would not be seen as acceptable, but Grippens build by Lockheed-Martin might be a different story.
As long as the royalties/license was sufficient, I can see that working. Rather like the M240 where we finally got a decent GPMG for the first time since WWII.
