re: #144 klys

…so what’s the purpose of something like this? Just trying to figure out if there is one beyond kill things faster.

There is a certain segment of gun culture that is, in its own way, extremely nerdy. They are cut from the same cloth as the guys who buy a 1994 Honda Civic for $1000 and then put $20,000 worth of gaudy aftermarket shit on it, like body kits, useless and/or counterproductive spoilers, engine mods, colored lights in the undercarriage, exhaust noise amplifiers, wheels made from metals that can only be mined on one of Jupiter’s moons, etc.

In the computer world, it’s the guys who build the absolute fastest gaming PC available and then go to all manner of warranty-voiding lengths to overclock each component in such a way that they score 0.0004% higher on a benchmark.

The AV/Home Theater world has the contingent who believe all sorts of insane voodoo, leading to a world in which companies can actually sell $1000 HDMI cables.

Pretty much every interest or hobby that requires gear of some sort will have a subculture of people who wastefully and pointlessly obsess over that gear, and constantly fiddle with it in very impractical ways. They end up spending more time modding their toys than actually playing with them.
