As far as we know (which isn’t much, considering the lengths the SJC Republicans have gone to keep anything but the most favorable documentation about Brett Kavanaugh well under wraps), they probably DID “find out about this stuff” - but figured they’d just bull ahead and push Judge Brett through before anyone else found out - after which, they could dismiss it all as “political sour grapes” or whatever.
They obviously didn’t reckon that the Committee Democrats might be just as hardball players: too much soy, or whatevs…..

That’s been my working theory for a week now, that they learned of allegations and/or feared they existed and took steps to counter them. Which is why they’re so angry with Feinstein, that she “sat on” these allegations rather than coming forward sooner and through “proper channels,” which would have allowed them to bury them in the hearings rather than giving them proper attention.
