Excellent post. The revisionism is a modern phenomenon, shared by Pat Buchanan-David Duke- the Von Mises Institute-the Political Cesspool-Vlaams Belaang-the League of the South-Ron Paul, on and on. Edwin Pollard, of the Richmond Examiner, wrote the “Southern History of the War”, a staple textbook for many years in the old Confederacy, that was quite straight forward in their grievances. Trade was not mentioned, property was, a specific type of property.

I hesitate to post on this , some people see it as a sectional attack, but it astounds me that the 4 years of the Confederacy are seen as the Holy Grail of patriotism,not to be condemned. The southern states have a glorious history in our republic, especially in the Revolutionary War, why this loyalty to a bunch of would-be aristocrats that drug their neighbors and the rest of the country into a bloody heap to maintain their status at everyone else’s expense, including their non-slaveholding Southern friends, family and neighbors has to be the touchstone of respect for our Southern countrymen.
