I recall a old sci fi story were some astronauts were sent to a nearby star by being put into suspended hibernation for a few hundred years for the journey.
When they awoke they found they were recieving a welcome in English from the new solar system.
It seems that a sort of warp drive had been invented a few years after they left, and the new system had been colonized for century or more and they had been expected.

Micronauts had a similar plot device. The main character was sent on a thousand year journey in stasis to observe and collect data from the fringes of known space. When he returrns, he learns they invented warp travel a century after he left.
