I’m late commenting on the thread, but I’m having difficulty with my wording; too many thoughts trying to get out at the same time, so bear with me.
Rush Limbaugh. That Baron Harkkonan son of a bitch, has single handedly made it acceptable to spew racially charged hate speech out in the open. We are all aware that racism was festering it never died, and it wasn’t really hidden all that well.
You recognize dogwhistles, you feel the tension when you walk in a room. You know why the old lady down the street let’s her dog bark at your kids a little too long (behind the fence) while she stares out the window. But that… that I could deal with. It’s part and parcel of being a black woman.
That said, my new neighbors threw a party last weekend. His friends thought it would be a good idea to talk about how they hated black women and what were good for — I’ll spare you the details. Whatever—I don’t care what they think.
But they said it right under my babies’ window.
Turns out, it was a bad idea.
