re: #131 Absalom, Absalom, Obdicut

Why do you think this bill would change things forever? Is there something about the bill that I’m not getting, or is it just like any other bill, which can be modified, repealed, etc?

The bill seems like a small number of modifications to the intelligence program and doesn’t go nearly far enough, in my estimation, while also being kind of redundant in other ways, having now taken a look at it. Increasing reporting requirements doesn’t matter when congress largely abdicates that role in the first place. Ending bulk collection— I assume they don’t mean that they’re criminalizing bulk collection by the 3rd parties, so I’m not sure how this would work in reality. Say the NSA wants to do a search of everyone who Mr. Ramjet Imaterrorist called during July, and everyone he sent messages to. Would this bill mean that the government had to provide that name to the 3rd party and have them do the search, or what?

The bill appears to me to reduce the most controversial aspects significantly enough to be well worthwhile. Forgive my slight hyperbole “forever”

I’d really like to see the Patriot Act sunsetted entirely, and as you may recall i happen to think lawyers at ACLU are correct when they assert the meta data collection of domestic traffic would no longer be allowed absent the P.A.

Third party data can be dealt with in another bill. This bill is a goo=d step in the right direction.

Do you oppose the bills passage?
