America still thinks of itself as a country composed of small towns and farms, even though in terms of where people live, it’s really a country of cities and suburbs.
We’ve honestly been the latter for a few generations now. I guess it goes back to Jefferson’s idealized vision of Agrarian America. I admire Jefferson’s political philosophy but we don’t live in Thomas Jefferson’s America, we live in Alexander Hamilton’s.
