What works really well in the garden for mice and chipmunks is buckets of water. What you do is fill a painter’s bucket about 3/4 full of water and cover the surface with sunflower seeds. Make sure there is a way for the little buggars to get into the bucket after those seeds, and wait. They’re very poor swimmers.

Yeah. We murdered a whole bunch of chipmunks that way with a kiddie pool. No seeds; it was involuntary rodentslaughter. We just left the pool filled overnight, and found the multiple victims in the morning.

I don’t know about their swimming abilities, but they can’t climb on plastic for jack.
