The GOP considers these folks disposable heroes. They claim the cost is too high. Thousands of responders were exposed to toxic materials at The Pile. Many of them middle class folks.
This is after President Bush promised to make sure that the nation would do what it took to care for these folks. That promise has been ignored time and again - mostly by the GOP that wants to avoid its responsibilities.
And I love their talk of fiscal responsibility here too. That’s their stock response, but it rings hollow since it will cost the government more in doing nothing here - and it will cause even more financial harms to these responders too.
