re: #137 FrogMarch

Everyone blogs differently. (IMO) If Uncle Jimbo had any grace he’d admit that Charles and Zombie were only pointing out the religious hypocrisy of San Francisco.

Actually, one weakness of the Zombie report is that the criticism of SF’s “religious hypocrisy” is couched in what-if terms:

Imagine, for a moment, if a Christian group with similar goals had paid for and displayed proselytizing ads in the Castro.

The Zombie report would be a lot stronger if it included an actual example of a Christian group (for example) attempting to purchase ad space for an overtly religious message on these same city buses and being turned down. The comparisons with Prop 8 protests in California, or with bus ads in Florida, are both arguably apples-and-oranges, since neither actually involves a decision made by whoever runs the SF public buses.

On the other hand, this small shortcoming in Zombie’s piece doesn’t justify Jimbo’s claim that Zombie and Charles are indifferent to free speech.
