I knew a guy in college who had a bad case of this. It was scary as hell, and his parents did not want to deal with it. He finally got thrown out of school, mostly, I think, because the school was scared of being sued if he went off the roof one fine night.

A site like that is…ick. Dangerous. Cruel. Is it put up by people who really believe it, do you think?

I do think they believe it. There’s too much genuine effort put into it to be anything but a genuine expression of their beliefs. As I mentioned earlier, one of my mother’s sisters pointed these out to me, as part of an ongoing discussion we’ve had about things she (her word) “notices” that make her suspect that something is going on just beneath the surface of things. Why it’s happening, she doesn’t know, and she admits to being baffled as to why total strangers would seem to go out of their way to victimize her in a million pointless, petty ways. She thinks this provides some explanation of it, and I’ve been attempting to persuade her otherwise.
