Certainly that is one viable conclusion. And I would agree that there are those who fit the truly ‘deplorable’ bill.

(Although I suspect that many on social media who seem to fit the bill actually reside in St Petersburg and Moscow. And only take the positions they do for preofessional reasons.)

I personally hesitate to paint 35% of the US population as a completely outside the moral sphere. I hope that many are convinceable and that we are not heading to another civil war.

I admit that I have been wrong many times, though.

What comes to my mind is how few actually tie themselves to a divisive figure after that figure’s failure. How few still supported Nixon in 1975. How few still supported Hoover in 1932. How few Germans still supported Hitler in 1946.
