Pardons open door to Stone being forced to testify to his actions and those of Trump without any 5A right against self incrimination. It would force Stone to spill the beans.

That’s about the only reason I can figure. We’ve seen Trump pardon Arpaio even before a sentence was handed down, so we know he doesn’t care when the stakes aren’t high, but here it would put himself in jeopardy since Stone knows a lot more than most others in Trumpworld as to Trump’s specific knowledge and crimes conducted on Trump’s behalf.
