Really, the only real difference between Robertson and ISIS is ISIS seems to actually willing to back up their crazy talk. I suppose it is a relief that Robertson is just a coward but at the same time espousing this rhetoric is just vile.

In ISIS, and al Quaeda, and many other groups, there are imams who spout hateful rhetoric without ever picking up a weapon. That’s left for the young, the strong, the martyrs. Also note that it’s a mix of religion and politics, not like fundies here.

The difference between American Taliban and the real thing is they live in countries ravaged by war, in a perpetual state of war. Amidst the carnage and savagery more savagery is really not that surprising. ISIS is trying to out savage everybody, and they’re doing a good job of it. And they’re getting free press from Fox News.

American Taliban can spout their hate then go to Chick-Fil-A for dinner and a movie on Saturday night, then church on Sunday: despite how horrible they say America is, it really isn’t. We got it easy. They speak of sin, disdain, culturally marginalizing and isolating others they judge to be impure. Sometimes there’s an eruption of their real selves (abortion doctor murders). So American Taliban are evil, but they aren’t ISIS: they don’t actually behead anybody or line up people and mow them down with AK’s.

But if society collapses here I have no doubt they’d lock and load then start ‘converting’ the rest of us.
