I fear the current generation only knows of Democratic leaders who are exactly as you describe - the well meaning millionaire lawyers.

Given the choice between (A) a well meaning millionaire lawyer, and (B) wingnut-pandering atavist, I’ll pick A anytime.

What ever happened to the HHH’s of the Democratic Party?

Ever since Reagan beat Carter it seems the Democratic Party has been in retreat.

Their outright liberal Presidential candidates have lost. And Clinton set the model of how they can win by running moderates. With the polarization of the parties and the general run to conservatism by both the media and business interests I expect that favors a party running moderate-to-conservative candidates in most areas.
