I had a pretty decent time learning Arabic. The thing that made it click for me was learning the measures and the actual underlying structure for creating nouns and adjectives from the root verb. Learning the root verbs was just memorization, then memorizing the measures, and you are pretty close to all the way there for even identifying proximate meanings of unknown words. Modern Standard Arabic is far more logical than English, and once you are firm on that, learning all the dialects will just mess with you for months.
