Neither religions make a point of punting bigots. They need people to fill the seats at Temple/Church.

He was actually (until very recently) the head of a seminary, which I believe means he was in charge of training and educating other priests. If he was a lunatic screaming stuff on the street corner, this wouldn’t be an issue, but he is a man with an influence over a sizeable ‘flock’ and in charge of the education of other priests, so it is a big issue.
