“Both sides…” and “all politicians are bad/liars” and “the system is the real problem” are by far the least controversial and simultaneously most wrong things someone can say about politics.

I see at least one celebrity and 50 memes on social media from generally apolitical people that say one or more of these things every day.

Think of it this way: if one person gave you an impassioned opinion about 12th century Chinese pottery, and another person gave you a completely different impassioned opinion about 12th century Chinese pottery, and then someone asked you for your opinion, and you know zip about 12th century Chinese pottery but don’t want to look dumb, what would you say?

Well, both of the people had good points, but the real answer is somewhere in the middle…
