“This is our seventh record, the significant numerology of which affected the DNA of its content: the seven virtues, the seven sorrows, and the seven deadly sins. It was our way of trying to make sense of how fucking nuts the world is and the astounding chaos we find ourselves in. It’s the record we felt that we had to make at this time. Major thanks and kudos to the genius Chilean artist and film director Javi Miamor for the incredible visual accompaniment to our brand new song!”

Lyrics
The men who rule the world
Have made a fucking mess
The history of power
The worship of success
The king is in the counting house
He’s chairman of the board
The women who crowd the courtrooms all accused of being whores

Money money money money ha ha ha ha ha

The fleecing of the people
All the fucking time
They call it self-preservation
But we call it a crime
Tented cities on sidewalks underneath the clouds
Imaginary neighbours with plastic cups and paper crowns

Now let’s save all of the animals
Let’s save all the squid
Let’s load them onto the mothership with the elders and the kids
Save great works of genius
The birds the bugs the seeds
And make it a crime to tell a lie again
And watch those haters bleed

Stuck inside my head
Stuck inside my head
All the fucking time

The Violator
Hate the violator
The violator
Destroy the violator

NEW GARBAGE?!?!!!! YEAH!!!!

The Madison concert May 1, 2005 for the “Bleed Like Me” tour remains one of the all time best concerts I’ve seen.

Thank you for this one Charles.

Just an anecdote, but a guy in line at Krogers today started talking to me, and said he wasn’t going to get vaccinated, but then his doctor told him to, so he did. I think we have a pretty good shot at reaching herd immunity this year.

GOP sees the base as expendable. They’re fine treating their constituents to the abattoir treatment. Fleecing is tip of that iceberg. They’re fine killing their base so long as they stay in power and keep everyone misinformed.

That’s all my wife and I felt after our first one (got my first one in left arm). After the second my wife said her arm really hurt that time (she got the shot in the same arm as the first), and I felt the same as the first but I got the 2nd in my right arm.

Just something I observed. Could be nothing.

My arm ached, but I’ve had tetanus shots that hurt way more.
Also, my entire arm hurt for a week after my last flu shot in November.
The Moderna ache was pretty much just my shoulder for 2-3 days. No biggie.

But this won’t have the effect that Cruz and his cadre of morons in congress think it will have (hint: it probably won’t have any)

You may wish to try hitting the buttons along the right hand side (rhs) of the screen. A lot of the pump tvs will stop when the top or second rhs button is hit. You could also double check via google as things tend to change fairly quickly. (LifeHacker and YouShouldKnow/YSK are among the sources for this info.)

I tend to use Costco so do not bump into this issue fairly often. And since I used to blow stuff up for fun (US Army Field Artillery) I have some tolerance for loud noises.

Suez Canal Shipping Backlog Ends, Days After Giant Vessel Freed

CAIRO - […]The head of the Suez Canal Authority, Oussama Rabieh, told Egyptian media Friday that all shipping traffic that was backed up from the blockage of the waterway caused by the gigantic Ever Given container ship should clear the canal Saturday.

He said that as of Friday 350 of the 422 backed up ships will have cleared the Suez Canal, meaning that the remaining 75 or so will go through on Saturday and new ships can start to transit.

re: #114 Dr Lizardo

Can’t remember who wrote an article about it, but the gist of the article was that Trump will very likely have an arrest warrant out for him on NY state charges by the end of the 2021 or the beginning of 2022 at the latest.

I sure hope so. Even having to defend himself in court is more trouble than the rich usually face in the US for their crimes.

But if these cases go to trial, there’s going to be a hell of a problem with jury selection. No jury with a Trumpist true believer on it will convict, and I don’t think attempts to keep Trumpists off juries with challenges from the prosecutors etc. will work with the necessary accuracy.

I cannot remember the case or the defendant (Manafort maybe?) but there was a trial that included Trumpsters on the jury and they returned a guilty verdict, because they took their responsibilities seriously. Maybe that is no longer true and such jurors would now be too brainwashed. But let’s hope truth and justice will prevail.

Anyone that is that crazy is going to be excluded by the DA. Real crazy is hard to hide, not impossible, but hard. Getting a conviction on trump may be an uphill battle, but the evidence will be public. so worth it. He’s accused of stealing millions from taxpayers. Jury don’t love this. Also, the prosecution will be smart enough to give the juries at least a few choices. He, like Manafort, may be found guility of some and hung jury on others. the ratings will be HUGE.

The Manatee County jail is in the vicinity but there are no plans to evacuate at this time, according to Randy Warren, Manatee County Sheriff’s Office spokesman.

“Inmates will be moved to the upper level if necessary,” Warren said. “Sandbags were put in place around all entrances [Friday].”

Who would have thunk it? Maureen Dowd wrote a heartfelt column castigating Gaetz and praising Hunter Biden’s new book:

The book, ineffably sad and beautifully written, tears the tabloid face off the story about an American family that has experienced the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. The outline is familiar but the details are wrenching, proving that drugs can drag anyone down, even a famous politician’s privileged son who drove into inner cities to buy crack in his Porsche and who had plenty of Burisma “funny money,” as he called it, to rehab-hop. Even his father, chasing him down a driveway after a family intervention, could not overcome “crack’s dark power.”

The Air Force is going forward with plans to mothball two aging, trouble-prone 55th Wing jets used for flying aerial photography missions over Russia as part of the international Open Skies Treaty. The move amplifies doubts about the future of the 34-nation pact.

The OC-135B aircraft, which are nearly 60 years old, are based at Offutt Air Force Base and will be flown to Arizona in May or June for storage in the desert “boneyard” at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, said Rep. Don Bacon, a retired brigadier general who once commanded the 55th Wing.

An Air Force spokesperson confirmed the news in a statement to The World-Herald on Friday.

So, in COVID-19 news out of Czech Republic, it looks like the current ongoing state of emergency will come to an end on 12 April, as per the Ministry of the Interior. The government here has calculated they simply can’t extend it any further without provoking a catastrophic financial crisis and/or massive civil unrest.

Also, it was confirmed that Czech doctors long ago stopped intubating anyone over the age of 80 - it’s reckoned their chances of survival are essentially zero, so instead, they’re given morphine as “palliative care” (aka, passive euthanasia). No surprise to me on that one; I have a student who’s a nurse, and she told me about that a few months ago.

On the plus side, at least the Czech government has been able to rustle up some spare vaccines from other countries, though only about 40,000.

Saw an interesting video on counterfeit products (part of a series of such videos).

This one was on oregano.

It turns out that 80% of the world’s oregano is produced in Turkey.
Turkey grows 8,000 tonnes every year.
They export 15,000 tonnes every year.

In an interview with a Turkish oregano farmer who grows premium oregano (everything is hand-picked, sun-dried, &c), he noted that usually the only way you can detect adulterated oregano shipments is with chemical analysis, and most American spice companies don’t bother (a couple high-end companies in the USA do).

He noted they used to adulterate weed with oregano, now they adulterate oregano with weeds.

The Right’s Latest Assault On Pizza: Trump ‘Accidentally’ Sanctioned Random Italian Restaurant (Wonkette)

On Trump’s last day in office, he sanctioned a whole bunch of people and companies associated with Venezuela’s oil company.

One of those people is named Alessandro Bazzoni.

Because of the stunning competence of Republican administrations, they didn’t sanction the guy associated with Venezuela’s oil company, they sanctioned every Alessandro Bazzoni in the world.

That included a pizza restaurant in Italy, a graphic designer in Sardinia, and other people.

The pizza guy found one morning all his accounts were blocked, essentially freezing up his business. He was actually good about it though, as the Biden Administration quickly moved to unblock all the Alessandro Bazzonis who are not the guy in Venezuela.

He is the bottom guy of a California scheme to rip off people by using stolen debit card numbers. The California group created fake debit cards and sent them to an Alliance man to steal money from an Alliance bank.

He was sentenced to three years probation in federal court, ordered to pay back the money, and fined.

Nebraska man stole $33,241 over four days in debit card scheme (Scottsbluff, Nebr. Star-Herald)

The Alliance, Nebraska, woman grew irritated as she waited behind a driver making multiple withdrawals from an ATM.

She estimated that the man withdrew cash six separate times as she waited for 10 minutes that morning at the Alliance First National Bank.

What she didn’t realize until later was that the man was likely the suspect in an ongoing ATM theft scheme — a type of fraud that the FBI says costs more than $1 billion a year.

Over four days in April 2016, Randall Hillman of Alliance stole $33,241 from that ATM. He tried to steal another $36,216 during the same period.

And that was only what authorities could prove.

As more people become more eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine the number of people who received it reached another milestone as nearly one-third of Panhandle residents have been vaccinated

As of Monday, 20,923 Panhandle citizens have been vaccinated. Officials continue to urge people to register to receive the vaccine at vaccinate.ne.gov, or by calling[no phone numbers allowed]. Anyone who is 18 and older may receive the vaccine.

In a press release from Unified Command, Panhandle Public Health District Director Kim Engel noted the progress they have seen, as well as an important anniversary in the battle against COVID-19.

“Today marks the one-year anniversary since announcing the first COVID case in the Panhandle. In a year full of ups-and-downs, the COVID vaccine provides a sense of hope for people ready to get together at upcoming celebrations, hug their grandchildren, and more safely travel. It’s your turn, please take it,” said Engel.

On Monday, officials with Unified Command announced two additional COVID-related deaths in the Panhandle: a woman in her 80s in Box Butte County and a woman in her 80s in Dawes County. The total number of COVID-related deaths in the Panhandle reached 191.

No new cases of COVID-19 were announced in Box Butte County, in the past week, although there were 37 new cases confirmed in other Panhandle counties.

He has tons of lower court seats to fill and their impact will be substantial.

Joe Biden’s first set of judicial nominations this week is the beginning of something big: almost certainly by the end of this Congress, the majority of lower court seats will be filled by Democratic appointees.

That may surprise you, considering the breathless coverage Donald Trump received for his four-year judicial confirmation blitz. We were constantly told he was transforming the judiciary for a generation. With Sen. Mitch McConnell’s help, the Senate became a judicial confirmation factory.

For years, Republicans have been saying, “Let the market decide.”

Well guess what? The market decided.

Major League Sports is a business

Country Music is a business

Blockbuster comic-based filmmaking is a business

But some people seem to see them as representative of some abstract American values and expect them to live up their quaint, outdated notion of what these values should be and throw hissy fits on the Internet and on conservative media when things don’t go their way.

At Alpine Meadows where I normally patrol (took year off for Covid), we do ‘Beacon & Eggs’ on Easter Sunday - we set a few avalanche beacons in the snow for people to practice their skills on, and we scatter a bunch of plastic eggs with candy around the mountain…and one ‘golden egg’ which gives the lucky finder a free season ticket for the following years.

Female patrollers all wear bonnets and dresses over their patrol gear. It’s kind of cool watching them from the lift - dropping down a 40 degree chute in a flowing pink dress.
