Ever heard of Sri Lanka? Maybe I’m not making my point correctly so I’ll try to rephrase. The Chechen war is not a religious ideological battle. Yes, there are islamists helping the rebels and Yes, a variety of KLA/Islamist types would love to set up a sharia based government in Chechnya but the majority of the people on the side of independence do not want a strict sharia-based form of government. Right now they’ll take whatever help they can get but don’t think that the underlying reason is based on their religious preference because it isn’t.

The problem, Rogue, is that the Chechens who blow up schools and subways are all Islamists. In way cases they were radicalized by the Al Qaeda fighters who trained them. the use of suicide bombers like this in Russia says that these deaths can almost certainly be blamed on Radical Islam.
