Yeah. IIRC Ahh-nold ran as a lark (along with a bazillion other people) but when he was elected, he really did make an effort.

I dunno: Arnold’s running for Governor wasn’t *quite* a “lark”; - if I recall the history correctly, he had been pushing the CA GOP to let him front for public office for years: and for years, the Party had been pushing him off: happy enough to take his money, but hesitant to put him up for office because they thought he was way too much the “Hollywood liberal” to fit the Party Line (i.e. not a xenophobic, homophobic racist for whom political time had frozen in 1928); so he grabbed the opportunity afforded by the Gray Davis recall to run “on his own”, and won: for which the CA Republicans never forgave him….
