It never occurs to the critics of Obama not going to some funerals is that the family may want to cry and reminince without cameras in their faces. Wherever a President goes, so does the press, especially the television press. Without him/her, the ordinary press stays outside and just takes pictures of the people leaving the church. People can quietly come in and out, feel freer to sit around and talk, whatever.

That was exactly my point about the Scalia funeral.
