I’m ashamed to admit this, but I was a freshman in high school when he was killed and I laughed at what happened to him. I was a virulent homophobe back then and I detested gay people and found them to be filthy and disgusting.

Looking back, I wish I could take that back in an instant if I could. I’m so deeply ashamed of it.

You grew out of it. There are grown adults who think what happened to Matthew Shepperd was a good thing.
