Do Democrats realize McConnell would call the shots in a Senate impeachment trial?

Actually, I’d bet that has figured in Nancy’s thinking right along.

Not entirely so anyway.

The second the House delivers any charges to the Senate, the clerk of the Senate delivers them to the Supreme Court. The Chief Justice comes over to the Senate, where he is sworn in as the President of the Senate for the duration of the trial.

At that point, McConnell (acting President of the Senate as Majority Leader) becomes just another senator.
