It is interesting to think about. I can’t think of too many successful single politicians or really that many divorcees. Reagan comes to mind with the latter but he had been divorced for nearly 30 years when he ran for president.

I think it extends beyond that, with all the media attention payed to our presidents, much of “middle america” wants them to also represent the ideal family, so it’s not just being married, but also having multiple kids, a dog, and some storybook life.
