The first Republican president in my lifetime was President Eisenhower.

Also the last decent Republican president in my lifetime … and I was too young to know of him personally.

I still have a soft spot for Nixon.

Sure there’s the crimes, and the mental illness, but his legislative record included EPA, OSHA, Title IX, Title X, Affirmative Action. He supported unions, and he tried to get universal health care. His foreign policy included opening relations with China, and saving Israel in 1973. So, y’know, mixed bag.
