I don’t think anyone’s implying that the guy doesn’t deserve credit, but rather that it’s a shame he lost his life trying to be a “good guy with a gun”.

That phrase gets used all over the wingnutosphere like it’s some sort of magic mantra that will protect the good guys from harm. It’s like some kind of NRA marketing bullshit. The good guys don’t always win.

I don’t cede the use of the term into the distortions promoted by the NRA. Then the harshest anti gun critics use it to broad brush honest folks that do have guns and maybe a CCW when some crook uses a gun in a fight or a robbery.

Every cop in or out of uniform is a good guy with a gun. Every security guard with a gun. every Brinks guy. Bad apples exist in all walks of life of course. The guy deserves the praise we reserve for brave people that step up when lives are at risk. Including those who have CCW.

The rhetoric is genuinely upsetting to us moderates. With all due respect to our kind host I don’t like seeing the poor guy tainted with the “Killed by the NRA”

I don’t know him. I think it insults him.
