Like Russia and China? And most of those “friendly” nations are not exactly the kinds of countries we really want to be friends with.

Personally, I consider Iran to be one of the major power countries in the region. If we dealt with them on a more normal basis, it would be far easier to tell them its time to end this. Right now, we have no real pull on convincing them to stop funding those groups.
