To quote the Devil’s Dictionary by Ambrose Bierce:

A device having a relation to the eye similar to that of the telephone to the ear, enabling distant objects to plague us with a multitude of needless details. Luckily it is unprovided with a bell summoning us to the sacrifice.”

I’d like to update that, in relation to this post:

“Twitter, n.
Software having a relation to the screen similar to that of the cell phone to the ear, enabling distant Web pages to plague us with a multitude of unwanted notices. Unfortunately, it is provided with a “tweet” summoning us to the sacrifice.”

In other words: If I want to visit a Web site, I’ll visit it. And if I don’t want to visit it, I won’t visit it. I don’t need Twitter bossing me around!
