re: #35 lawhawk
Sanford is simply following in the illustrious footsteps of the following (in no particular order):
Eliot Spitzer (D-NY)
Jim McGreevey (D-NJ)
Barney Frank (D-MA)
Gerry Studds (D-MA)
Charles Rangel (D-NY)
William Jefferson (D-LA)
Ted Stevens (R-AK)
Chris Dodd (D-CT)And many many more…
All thought they were entitled to remain in their positions despite ethical flaps, clear criminality, and/or controversy surrounding their infidelities depending on their individual circumstances.
Elliot Spitzer and Jim McGreavy most certainly did not think they were entitled to remain in their positions. That’s why they resigned the very day they had to confess.
David Vitter and Larry Craig did not resign, nor did John Ensign.
