re: #198 Obdicut

Yes. But that is isn’t antisemitism in the New Testament. All of the heroes in the New Testament are also Jewish, as is Jesus. That’s just who’s there.

In fact, the antisemitism that so typified Christianity for hundreds and hundreds of years is all the more contemptible and assholish because there is so little support for it in the Christian Bible. That doesn’t mean that Christianity hasn’t been the main source of antisemitism; it has been, since Christianity, like Islam, is not defined solely by what the holy texts actually say.

So, it is actually kind of interesting that even though there are portions of the Koran that reflect open warfare with Jews, and there are portions of commentary that are anti-Jewish, that the Islamic world has historically been so much better to the Jews than Christians have— despite the near-total lack of antisemitism in the Christian bible.

It’s like trying to figure out why the Christians who have a kind and loving god have tended to be much more assholish than the Jews who have a much nastier and stricter god…

(This statement made in broad strokes please hold your tomatoes I’ve already been pelted enough for one night)
