Good! The (R) should fight it Obama (ACORN) taking over the census. I don’t see anyting either about the census needing the number of toilets I have (the government mandate ones that don’t work or the black market ones that do?).

There is no justification for it under the Constitution, but the information isn’t entirely useless, either.

Although a lot of it is used by marketing people, most of the questions they ask are of at least some value to state and local governments. The questions about pets, for example, can be used to cross-check the number of pets that have been licensed in a city, so they can get an idea of how well people are complying with the registration laws.

As someone with a public administration background who’s also a conservative, I’m kind of conflicted over the whole thing. I can agree with the idea that it’s none of their business, while at the same time understanding the usefulness of the data.
