Look, Sarah Palin has used extreme rhetoric. But it’s a stretch to say she is the direct cause of this without further evidence—maybe that will come, but until it does we cannot assume this guy was motivated by Palin’s words.

Daily Kos also had a “target list” and referred to votes from members, including Gifford, as putting a bullseye on them.

The Kos posting has absolutely no direct bearing on this shooting, of course. But it is the same heated rhetoric Palin uses. As a leading figurehead, Palin should know better than to use rhetoric as charged as she does—and I hope one lesson from this tragedy is that all sides dial back extreme rhetoric.
