Speaking of gas prices, a couple of NY GOP state politicians are calling for a state tax holiday. One is Greg Ball, who made news for hearings patterned on Rep. King’s hearings on Islamists in the US, and the other is James Tedisco:
Considering the precarious nature of the state budget, suspending the tax would affect the budget that was recently enacted. The alt energy r&d bill does seem like a good idea, although I’m not sure how that would get funded either.
They tried floating the same idea back during the Bush admin, mostly because they like to assert that the biggest driver of high gas prices is “federal/state gas taxes.”
