Seriously. Most of my positions in favor of social welfare programs come from my desire to do this as cheaply and efficiently as possible. I believe in those programs because I believe it economically benefits me— and everyone else— for us to help others achieve productive lives.

How do you fit that onto a scale? I’d argue that’s a financially pragmatic, if not conservative opinion.
