There are too many idiots out there. The myth of everyone learning to properly handle a firearm is just that.

It really is. I’m a bit mad at past me for taking so long, but Sandyhook was the one that finally drove home the point that what worked in Australia could work here and could have prevented a lot of tragedies.

Guns are too easy to get in this country. We’d be better off if they were less available.

Perhaps it was different before they repealed the draft, but not now.

Nah. My Dad, my Grandpa and I all had to sign up for the draft. I’m pretty sure only my Grandpa got any firearms training from the Government. And he signed up for the Navy in WWII rather than take the chance on getting drafted into the Army. My Dad got lucky in the late 60s and didn’t get called up for Vietnam (I think his birthday got 365). I had to sign up right before 9/11, and I spent a couple years being thankful that Vietnam had made actually implementing a draft political suicide.

There might have been a higher percentage of people who went through basic training, but there would still have been plenty of yahoos.
