It doesn’t matter what it really means. It’s a scary word, especially for older folks who heard it in connection with the Russkies while they were hiding under their desks during civil defense drills. And since Obama is already “the Other” it becomes easier for many of them to believe there’s evil there.

Actually, we were hiding under our desks because of Communism, specifically Soviet Communism. Not Socialism.

Socialism was always viewed as Communism’s retarded sibling.

I suppose that view isn’t considered enlightened anymore.
